TV tubes - test cg

Here's a work in progress on the Factory Workers TV tube effect:

It turns out that FCP doesn't handle zoom compositing all that well. The long zoom on the triad of images has a tendency to float. Shake should solve that. The second effect after he falls asleep is incomplete - need to match cut onto the mirror clicking into place for the lifter..

FCP? Final Cut Pro?

FCP is Final Cut Pro. And DVDSP is DVD Studio Pro. Gotta get down on the lingo..

couple of annoying comments... :)

1. it seems like part of the point of the tube (from an engineering perspective) is to cut out ambient light and make it easier for the viewer to see the show. so having the bright background around the mirror sort of works against that, as does making the mirror smaller than the tube diameter, with plenty of space around it. i think i would make the mirror take up more of the diameter of the tube and make the background darker.

2. the shot of the various tubes beaming various programs seemed a bit confusing, and once again there was a lot of ambient light that would seem to work against the tv show transmission by washing out the image. i'd make it darker around the mirrors in general, like they're somehow insulated from ambient light.

3. otherwise i liked the timing and the cutting from scene to scene, except what you pointed out -- the mirror clicking into place should be a little longer to let the audience grasp what is happening. for that scene, too, i would have the mirror take up more of the tube's diameter.

Berg, all good points. The tube system needs fixing since it's a little hard to understand and you're steering the ship in the right direction. I have Shake for the Mac up and running that will give me much more motion control to get more interesting effects. By the way, does responding to this post email you directly? It's seems like a fault with this blog system if you aren't notified..
